Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the national Farmer Terms of Trade (NTP) reached 127.73 in May 2026, representing a 1.99 per cent increase compared to April 2026.

Pudji Ismartini, Deputy for Methodology and Statistical Information at BPS, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that this increase in NTP occurred because the index of prices received by farmers (It) rose by 2.53 per cent, which was higher than the increase in the index of prices paid by farmers (Ib), which rose by only 0.53 per cent.

Furthermore, the commodities that predominantly influenced the increase in the national farmers’ price receiving index included rubber, unhusked rice (gabah), cocoa, and shallots.

Looking at subsectors, Pudji added that the subsector experiencing the highest NTP increase was horticulture. “The horticulture subsector experienced an NTP increase of 7.08 per cent. This was due to the It rising by 7.52 per cent, while the Ib only rose by 0.41 per cent,” said Pudji. Within the horticulture subsector, the dominant commodities affecting the increase in the index received by farmers were shallots, bird’s eye chillies, red chillies, and tomatoes.

On the other hand, the Fishermen’s Terms of Trade (NTN) fell by 0.47 per cent, as the It increased by only 0.03 per, which was lower than the increase in the Ib, which rose by 0.51 per cent. The dominant commodities affecting the increase in the It for the fishermen’s terms of trade were blue swimmer crabs, sea crabs, and mackerel.

Additionally, BPS reported average rice prices at the milling, wholesale, and retail levels. The average price of rice at the milling level in May 2026 increased by 0.58 per cent month-to-month (mtm) and by 8.10 per cent year-on-year (yoy).

“If we categorise by rice quality at the milling level, premium rice rose by 0.56 per cent month-to-month and 12.81 per cent year-on-year. Meanwhile, medium-grade rice rose by 0.79 per cent month-to-month or 6.57 per cent year-on-year,” said Pudji.

Furthermore, the rice inflation rate at the wholesale level in May 2026 was recorded at 0.68 per cent monthly and 6.11 per cent annually. At the retail level, inflation was 0.38 per cent monthly and 4.55 per cent annually. The rice prices reported by BPS represent the average prices covering all quality types and all regions across Indonesia.
