BPS Projects 1.07 Percent Decline in Corn Production for January-September 2026

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) projects that corn production from January to September 2026 will reach 12.67 million tonnes, a decrease of 1.07 percent compared to the same period in 2025.

“Production of dry shelled corn with 14 percent moisture content from January to September 2026 is estimated to reach 12.67 million tonnes, a decline of 0.14 million tonnes or 1.07 percent,” said Ateng Hartono, BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, during the release of the Official Statistics News in Jakarta on Monday.

Based on the June 2026 Area Sample Framework Survey, the total harvested area for January–September 2026 is projected to reach 2.17 million hectares, down 0.03 million hectares or 1.20 percent year-on-year.

In June 2026, the harvested area for shelled corn was recorded at approximately 0.25 million hectares, lower than the 0.26 million hectares recorded in June 2025. Dry shelled corn production for that month is estimated at 1.50 million tonnes, down from 1.55 million tonnes in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Hartono noted that the potential harvested area from July to September 2026 is estimated to reach 0.67 million hectares, a decline of 4.39 percent compared to the same period in 2025. A deeper decline is expected on the production side, with dry shelled corn output during July–September 2026 projected at 3.98 million tonnes, a reduction of 0.28 million tonnes or 6.48 percent year-on-year.

The potential harvested area also includes corn plants that may be harvested young or used as animal feed forage, rather than entirely for producing shelled corn. The projection figures remain subject to change depending on field conditions, including pest infestations, flooding, drought, and changes in harvest timing by farmers.
