BPS: Potential Rice Production for August-October Reaches 9.33 Million Tonnes

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has announced that potential rice production for the August-October 2026 period is expected to reach 9.33 million tonnes, a slight decrease of 0.90 per cent compared to the same period last year (yoy).

Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that the potential harvested area for paddy during this period is estimated to reach 3.07 million hectares, down 1.29 per cent compared to the August-October 2025 period. This projection, he noted, is consistent with estimated paddy production reaching 16.18 million tonnes of milled dry grain (GKG).

Meanwhile, the realised harvested area for paddy in July 2026 was recorded at 0.93 million hectares, a 1.05 per cent decrease compared to July 2025, which stood at 0.94 million hectares. Following this reduction in harvested area, paddy production in July 2026 is estimated to reach 4.75 million tonnes of GKG, down 1.00 per cent from 4.80 million tonnes of GKG in July 2025.

Rice production in July 2026 was recorded at 2.74 million tonnes, or a 0.99 per cent decrease compared to the same period the previous year. However, cumulatively, the realised paddy harvested area from January to July 2026 reached 7.24 million hectares, an increase of 0.57 per cent compared to the January-July 2025 period.

In addition to rice, BPS also noted developments in maize production, with the realised harvested area in July 2026 reaching 0.23 million hectares, a 6.06 per cent decrease compared to July 2025. Production of shelled maize with 14 per cent moisture content (JPK KA 14 per cent) in July 2026 is estimated to reach 1.38 million tonnes, down 6.33 per cent from July last year. Nevertheless, cumulatively, the production of JPK KA 14 per cent from January to July 2026 reached 10.08 million tonnes, an increase of 0.45 per cent compared to the same period in 2025.

Previously, BPS recorded the national farmer exchange rate (NTP) for August 2026 at 129.19, an increase of 1.05 per cent compared to July 2026. This rise was driven by an increase in the farmer price receiving index (It) of 1.14 per cent, which was higher than the increase in the farmer price paying index (Ib) of 0.09 per cent.

BPS also noted that average rice prices in August 2026 experienced increases across all levels. On a monthly basis, rice prices at the milling level rose by 1.32 per cent, at the wholesale level by 0.80 per cent, and at the retail level by 0.42 per cent.
