BPS: Medium and Premium Rice Prices Continue to Rise

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has recorded that the prices of both medium and premium rice continued to rise through the fifth week of July 2026. Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, stated that this upward trend has been ongoing since February 2026. “From February until the fifth week of July, rice has consistently experienced price increases for both medium and premium rice. The price of medium rice rose by 0.50 percent and premium rice by 0.52 percent,” Ateng said during a Regional Inflation Coordination Meeting monitored online in Jakarta on Tuesday. BPS noted that the national average price of medium rice in the fifth week of July 2026 reached Rp14,489 per kilogram, up from Rp14,417 per kilogram in June 2026. Meanwhile, the average price of premium rice reached Rp16,330 per kilogram, an increase compared to the Rp16,245 per kilogram recorded in June 2026. “The number of districts/cities experiencing rice price increases is growing. Last week there were 152, now there are 155 districts/cities,” Ateng stated. Langsa City recorded the highest Price Development Index (IPH) increase at 6.23 percent. Increases of around 5 percent also occurred in Tambrauw Regency, Sarmi Regency, and Kaur Regency. Furthermore, Southwest Aceh Regency, Southwest Maluku Regency, and Serdang Bedagai Regency also recorded rice IPH increases in the range of 4-5 percent.
