BPS: Inflation Rises Due to Non-Subsidised Fuel, Contribution Nearly Matches BI Projection

Indonesia’s inflation rate experienced a surge in June 2026, reaching 3.34 per cent year-on-year (yoy), close to the upper limit of the government’s target range of 2.5 per cent plus or minus 1 per cent. The increase in non-subsidised fuel prices in June 2026 contributed significantly to driving up the inflation rate.

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that monthly inflation in June 2026 reached 0.04 per cent month-to-month (mtm). On an annual basis, inflation hit 3.34 per cent (yoy), and the calendar year inflation, or year-to-date (ytd), was recorded at 1.79 per cent.

“There are several important events that could influence price indicators, particularly throughout June 2026. The first is related to non-subsidised fuel, which experienced price changes twice in June 2026,” said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Ateng Hartono during a press conference at the BPS Office in Jakarta on Wednesday (1/7/2026).

The two increases in non-subsidised fuel prices occurred on 1 June 2026 and 10 June 2026. The price of Pertamax Turbo, or Pertamax RON 98, rose on 1 June 2026 from Rp 19,900 per litre to Rp 20,750 per litre. Meanwhile, the price of Pertamax RON 92 jumped on 10 June 2026 from its previous position of Rp 12,300 per litre to Rp 16,250 per litre.

Ateng detailed that the largest contributor to inflation in June 2026 was the transport sector. Inflation in the transport sector in June 2026 reached 2.29 per cent, contributing 0.28 per cent to the overall inflation rate.
