BPS: Garlic Prices Begin to Fall and Are Relatively Under Control

The head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, has stated that national garlic prices have begun to decline and are relatively under control in the first week of August 2026. The average national price is currently around Rp39,924 per kilogram. Although this remains above the consumer-level reference price set at Rp38,000 per kilogram, the price trend is showing a decrease. “For garlic, the national average price has started to decline but is still above the reference price, at around Rp39,924 per kilogram,” Amalia said during an online coordination meeting on regional inflation control on Monday. She noted that the number of districts and cities experiencing garlic price increases has also reduced significantly. However, several regions still require attention, including South Manokwari Regency where garlic is priced at Rp63,750 per kilogram, Kapuas Hulu Regency at Rp50,000, Rote Ndao Regency at Rp48,667, West Seram Regency at Rp47,000, and East Kutai Regency at Rp45,000. “So the homework is much better now, the homework is smaller,” Amalia said. She added that the national garlic supply is relatively adequate, reflected by the substantial import realisation during the first half of 2026. “Garlic imports during this first semester have reached 229,000 tonnes. So almost 230,000 tonnes, and this should mean supply is adequate,” she explained. Amalia stated that approximately 98 percent of Indonesia’s garlic imports come from China, with India being the next largest supplier.
