BPS: Fuel Price Increase Has Not Yet Had Significant Impact on April 2026 Inflation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Ateng Hartono, stated that the increase in non-subsidised fuel (BBM) prices in mid-April 2026 has not yet had a significant impact on inflation.
Inflation in April 2026 was recorded at 0.13% month-to-month (mtm), 2.42% year-on-year (yoy), and 1.06% year-to-date (ytd).
“Because (petrol) has a small weight, its influence on inflation is relatively not that great,” said Ateng Hartono in Jakarta on Monday.
He revealed that the petrol commodity, which is part of the Transportation Expenditure Group, only experienced inflation of 0.34% mtm in April 2026.
This inflation rate was lower than the previous month, which reached 0.98% mtm.
Thus, the petrol commodity contributed 0.13% to the inflation of the Transportation Expenditure Group and 0.02% to the overall monthly inflation in April 2026.
Ateng explained that the low inflation contribution from the petrol commodity was due to the price increase only affecting the non-subsidised BBM group.
“The weight of non-subsidised BBM is relatively low. Why is it low? Because non-subsidised BBM is consumed by a limited segment, so naturally, if the weight is low, the overall impact is relatively insignificant,” said Ateng.
He noted that the same applied to the avtur commodity, which saw a price increase in April 2026 compared to March 2026. According to data from PT Pertamina (Persero), avtur prices increased at every airport operating in Indonesia.
“Avtur prices increased, (impacting) inflation (of) air tickets, but because its weight is not large, the impact on overall inflation is not very significant,” said Ateng.
Regarding air transport fares, which experienced inflation of up to 15.24% mtm in April, he stated that this occurred because air ticket prices had previously deflated due to government stimulus.
“Overall, the passenger transport services group experienced inflation because fares returned to normal after previously deflating due to government policy, namely the economic stimulus package in the first quarter of 2026,” he said.
PT Pertamina (Persero) raised prices for several non-subsidised BBM products, namely Pertamax Turbo, Dexlite, and Pertamina Dex, starting 18 April.
Quoting Pertamina’s official website, the price of Pertamax Turbo in the DKI Jakarta area as of 18 April rose to Rp19,400 per litre from Rp13,100 per litre on 1 April 2026.
For Dexlite, the price was set at Rp23,600 per litre, up from Rp14,200 per litre on 1 April 2026.
Meanwhile, for Pertamina Dex, the price was set at Rp23,900 per litre from the previous Rp14,500 per litre.
As of today, Pertamina has again announced BBM price updates for certain areas effective from 4 May, with non-subsidised diesel and Pertamax Turbo types experiencing increases, while Pertamax remains stable.
Based on Pertamina’s official website quoted from Jakarta on Monday, Pertamina is adjusting fuel (BBM) prices.
In Jabodetabek, for example, the price of Pertamax Turbo (RON 98) BBM shows an increase to Rp19,900 per litre from Rp19,400 per litre in April.
Pertamina Dex Series or diesel-type BBM in the area also experienced an increase. The price of Dexlite (CN 51) BBM rose to Rp26,000 per litre from Rp23,600 per litre in April 2026.
