BPS: Foreign Tourist Arrivals Reached 1.52 Million in July, Led by Malaysia
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has stated that the number of foreign tourist arrivals in July 2026 reached 1.52 million visits, with the largest proportion consisting of tourists from Malaysia.
Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, explained in Jakarta on Tuesday that arrivals through main entry points were recorded at 1,362,812 visits, while those entering through border crossings reached 162,225 visits.
“In total, the number of foreign tourist visits reached 1.52 million, representing a 9.99 per cent increase month-to-month (mtm) and a 2.95 per cent increase year-on-year (yoy),” said Ateng.
Cumulatively, from January to July 2026, total foreign tourist arrivals reached 8.98 million visits, an increase of 5.23 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. This achievement is the highest recorded since 2020.
Based on passport holders, the highest number of visits was made by Malaysian passport holders, accounting for 15 per cent. The next most frequent visitors were from Australia (12.34 per cent) and China (10.28 per cent).
On a monthly basis, there was an increase in arrivals for Australian (12.39 per cent) and Chinese (33.40 per cent) passport holders, while Malaysian arrivals experienced a decrease (11.59 per cent).
However, when viewed on a year-on-year basis, all three countries saw increases: Malaysia rose by 7.83 per cent, Australia by 8.67 per cent, and China by 8.45 per cent.
“Looking at the main entry points, the highest number of foreign tourists entered through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, primarily dominated by Australian passport holders,” Ateng added.
Regarding domestic tourism, the number of trips reached 107.44 million, up 0.23 per cent month-to-month and 7.23 per cent year-on-year.
Cumulatively, from January to July 2026, domestic tourist trips reached 737.85 million, an increase of 3.34 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, for national travellers—referring to Indonesians travelling abroad—802,670 trips were recorded, up 4.68 per cent month-to-month and 7.73 per cent year-on-year.
For the cumulative period of January to July 2026, the total reached 5.26 million trips, a decrease of 3.25 per cent compared to the same period in the previous year.
“The monthly increase in national traveller trips is primarily related to the even-semester school holidays, Umrah pilgrimages—particularly through Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Riau—and various attractive activities in several Southeast Asian countries and China,” said Ateng.
