JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that rice production in February 2026 experienced a significant surge, in line with an increase in harvested area.

However, at the same time, the Farmers’ Exchange Rate (NTP) experienced a slight decline in March 2026.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, stated that the realised harvested area for rice in February 2026 was estimated at 0.94 million hectares, or an increase of 23.62% compared to February 2025.

“This increase in harvested area was followed by rice production reaching 5.05 million tons of dry-milled unhulled rice, or up 27.41% from the same month last year,” said Ateng in a BPS release at the BPS Head Office on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

In line with that, rice production was estimated at 20.68 million tons of dry-milled unhulled rice, or down 11.12%, while milled rice production was estimated at 11.91 million tons, or down 11.11%.

On the other hand, corn production performance showed a decline. The realised harvested area for corn in February 2026 was recorded at 0.31 million hectares, or down 7.02% from February 2025.

Corn production also decreased by 4.91% to 1.77 million tons of dry shelled corn with 14% moisture content.

This decline occurred because the index of prices received by farmers (It) rose by 0.33%, which was lower than the index of prices paid by farmers (Ib), which rose by 0.41%.

BPS also recorded an increase in rice prices at various trade levels. On a monthly basis, rice prices at the milling level rose by 0.54%, at the wholesale level increased by 0.96%, and at the retail level rose by 0.65%.
