BPS estimates rice production potential to reach 7.92 million tonnes from May to July 2026

The Central Agency on Statistics (BPS) has announced that the national potential for rice production during the period of May to July 2026 is estimated to reach 7.92 million tonnes. Pudji Ismartini, the Deputy for Methodology and Statistical Information at BPS, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that this potential is derived from paddy production projections, which are expected to reach 13.75 million tonnes of milled dry grain (GKG) during the same period. Consequently, the potential rice production for May to July 2026 is estimated at 7.92 million tonnes, marking a decrease of 0.09 million tonnes, or 1.16 per cent, compared to the previous year. She further explained that the potential harvested paddy area for that period is expected to reach 2.69 million hectares, a decline of 0.65 per cent compared to May-July 2025. In contrast, national rice production from January to April 2026 reached 14.03 million tonnes, an annual increase of 0.12 per cent. In April 2026, the realised paddy harvest area was recorded at 1.40 million hectares, down 15.47 per cent from 1.65 million hectares in April 2025. Alongside rice, BPS also noted positive developments in maize commodities, with the maize harvest area in April 2026 reaching 0.24 million hectares, an increase of 4.90 per cent compared to April of the previous year.
