Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that chicken eggs, broiler chicken meat, beef, shallots, and bird’s eye chilli became the primary contributors to the Price Development Index (IPH) increase across three Indonesian provinces in the first week of March 2026.

BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that DKI Jakarta experienced an IPH increase of 3.39%, West Nusa Tenggara 2.67%, and West Sulawesi 1.41%. These three provinces recorded the highest IPH increases during the period leading up to Eid.

“Looking at the IPH figures, the majority contribution comes from bird’s eye chilli, broiler chicken meat, and then some chicken eggs,” said Amalia during a Regional Inflation Control Meeting monitored online in Jakarta on Monday.

In DKI Jakarta province, the IPH increase was driven by broiler chicken meat, shallots, and bird’s eye chilli. West Nusa Tenggara was driven by bird’s eye chilli, beef, and shallots. Meanwhile, West Sulawesi was influenced by broiler chicken meat, mackerel, and bird’s eye chilli.

Amalia reported that the IPH increase in the Sumatran region was driven by broiler chicken meat and beef.

On Java Island, the highest IPH increase occurred in the Kepulauan Seribu Administrative District. The contributors to the IPH increase included bird’s eye chilli, broiler chicken meat, and beef.

For regions outside Sumatra and Java, the main contributors to the IPH increase were bird’s eye chilli, red chilli, and broiler chicken meat. The highest IPH was recorded in East Lombok District.

“Therefore, what requires attention is the increase in chicken eggs, where 210 municipalities/cities have so far experienced an IPH increase,” Amalia said.

She added that bird’s eye chilli also requires monitoring although the price increase only occurred in 177 municipalities/cities. Additionally, broiler chicken meat and shallots also need supervision as an increasing number of municipalities and cities experience price increases.

Based on data from the Basic Needs Market Monitoring System (SP2KP) through 6 March 2026, the national average prices in the first week of March were chicken eggs at Rp32,475 per kilogramme (reference purchase price Rp30,000), bird’s eye chilli at Rp71,429 per kilogramme (Rp57,000), broiler chicken meat at Rp41,181 per kilogramme (Rp40,000), and shallots at Rp41,906 per kilogramme (Rp41,500).
