BPS: Egg prices rise in 210 regions, reaching 57,000 rupiah per kilogramme in Papua
In preparation for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, egg prices warrant particular government attention. Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) has reported that increases in the Price Development Index (IPH) for chicken eggs have occurred in 210 regencies/cities, representing approximately 58.33 per cent of Indonesia’s regions during the first week of March 2026. BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that the national average price of chicken eggs reached 32,475 rupiah per kilogramme, whilst the highest reference price (HAP) was set at 32,000 rupiah per kilogramme. “There are already 210 regencies/cities experiencing price increases for chicken eggs. Some have seen price increases of up to 16.31 per cent, with egg prices already 40 per cent above the reference price,” said Amalia in Jakarta on Monday. Several regions experiencing significant price spikes include Taliabu Island Regency in North Maluku, where egg prices have reached 42,000 rupiah per kilogramme, or 40 per cent above the reference price. Price increases have also occurred in North Buton Regency, South East Sulawesi, with egg prices around 37,293 rupiah per kilogramme, or 24.31 per cent above the reference price. The highest price surge has occurred in Papua, specifically in Sarmi Regency, where egg prices have reached 57,000 rupiah per kilogramme, or 90 per cent above the reference price. The BPS has also noted several other commodities requiring price movement monitoring, including chicken meat.
