Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) has commenced the Economic Census, which runs from 15 June to 31 August 2026, by collecting data from traders and business operators at Teras Malioboro Yogyakarta.

Acting Head of BPS DIY Endang Tri Wahyuningsih stated in Yogyakarta on Friday that the data collection activity, involving visits to traders and business operators around the corridors of the Teras Malioboro area, is called the ‘Gerebek Lorong’ initiative.

‘This activity symbolises the start of the spirit of economic data collection that reaches all business actors, from micro and small enterprises to large-scale businesses,’ she said.

According to her, this activity is a crucial part of BPS’s efforts to provide complete, accurate, and reliable economic data as a basis for formulating development policies.

‘BPS hopes that the active participation of all business actors will support the availability of accurate economic data as a foundation for development planning and more targeted policy-making,’ she said.

Embracing a spirit of collaboration and participation, BPS invites the public and business actors to make the Economic Census a success, as the data provided will become an important foundation for the future economic development of DIY and Indonesia.

Furthermore, as a region with unique economic characteristics driven by the education, tourism, culture, creative economy, and digital economy sectors, DIY requires high-quality economic data for targeted and sustainable development planning.

‘BPS hopes that public awareness of the importance of statistical data will increase and that strong collaboration will be built between the government, businesses, academia, the media, and the community to make the Economic Census a success,’ she said.

To ensure the security and comfort of respondents, census officers are equipped with official attributes, including an officer ID card, a vest with the BPS logo, and an official assignment letter that can be presented during data collection.

The wearing of these attributes symbolises the readiness of officers and statistical partners to carry out economic data collection duties across all areas of DIY.

‘The public is urged to welcome the arrival of census officers and provide truthful, complete, and accurate data to produce high-quality economic statistics,’ she said.
