The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) recorded that the number of international tourist arrivals via Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) in Kulon Progo reached 8,689 in April 2026.

“This figure represents a 33.06 per cent increase compared to March 2026, and a 21.78 per cent rise compared to April 2025,” stated the Acting Head of BPS DIY, Endang Tri Wahyuningsim, in Yogyakarta on Tuesday.

According to the official, cumulatively, the number of international tourist visits to DIY from January to April 2026 reached 29,394, marking a 27.11 per cent increase compared to the same period the previous year. “This increase demonstrates the ongoing recovery of international travel activities to the Special Region of Yogyakarta,” she added.

In terms of regional origin, ASEAN dominated the arrivals with 5,462 visits, accounting for 62.86 per cent of the total international tourists, followed by Europe with 1,581 visits and non-ASEAN Asia with 1,107 visits.

In addition to international arrivals, domestic tourist movement also showed an upward trend, reaching 3.59 million trips in April 2026. This represents a 4.55 per cent increase compared to March 2026 and a 5.92 per cent rise compared to April 2025. Of this total, 59.51 per cent were inter-provincial trips, while 40.49 per cent were travels within the DIY region.
