BPS: Digital Economy to Be Included in 2026 Economic Census
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has affirmed that the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) will encompass all economic actors without exception, including businesses in the digital economy sector and agricultural fields. BPS Principal Inspector Dadang Hardiawan stated that SE2026 holds special significance compared to previous periods due to the integration of data collection on sectors that have grown rapidly over the past decade. “The 2026 Economic Census is special because it covers agricultural businesses, including the digital economy. This is new; perhaps ten years ago it did not exist,” Dadang said during the launch of SE2026 in Palu, Central Sulawesi. He explained that SE2026 is mandated by law and conducted every ten years, aiming to deeply photograph the structure and characteristics of Indonesia’s economy from the national down to the regional level. Central Sulawesi Governor Anwar Hafid expressed full support for the census, reading a declaration as a form of local government commitment to maintaining integrity, strengthening synergy, and supporting the provision of a quality economic database. For Central Sulawesi, BPS has readied 3,210 field officers tasked with recording approximately 1.5 million business actors across the province. Field data collection is scheduled from 15 June to 31 August 2026. BPS urged all levels of society and business actors to actively participate in making SE2026 a success. “Everything will be recorded. We hope all levels of society welcome the census officers so that the resulting data is truly accurate for future development policies,” Dadang concluded.
