BPS Confident Rice and Corn Production Will Rise in First Half of 2026, Here Are the Projections

Jakarta, VIVA – Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, reported that the realised rice harvested area in June 2026 reached 0.84 million hectares, an increase of 6.93 per cent compared with June 2025, which covered 0.79 million hectares.

Alongside the increase in harvested area, Ateng said rice production was estimated to rise by 7.02 per cent, from 4.01 million tonnes of unhusked paddy (GKG) in June 2025 to 4.29 million tonnes GKG in June 2026.

“Likewise, recorded milled rice production reached 2.47 million tonnes, up 6.96 per cent compared with June last year,” Ateng said at a press conference at the BPS office in Jakarta on Wednesday, 3 August 2026.

Cumulatively, the realised rice harvested area from January to June 2026 reached 6.31 million hectares, up 0.81 per cent compared with the same period last year.

In the first half of 2026, rice production reached 33.58 million tonnes GKG (up 0.46 per cent), whilst milled rice production reached 19.35 million tonnes (up 0.45 per cent).

BPS estimates that the potential rice harvested area over the following three months (July–September 2026) will fall by 1.26 per cent compared with the same period last year, to 3.15 million hectares.

“Potential rice production over the next three months is estimated at 16.25 million tonnes GKG (down 0.90 per cent), whilst milled rice production is projected at 9.36 million tonnes (down 0.88 per cent),” he said.

In addition, Ateng said BPS also reported the realised maize harvested area in June 2026, which reached 0.25 million hectares, down 1.41 per cent compared with June 2025.

In line with the decline in harvested area, production of dry shelled maize at 14 per cent moisture content (JPK KA 14 per cent) in June 2026 was estimated at 1.50 million tonnes, down 3.73 per cent compared with June last year.

“However, cumulative JPK KA 14 per cent production from January to June 2026 reached 8.70 million tonnes, an increase of 1.62 per cent compared with January to June 2025,” he said.
