The Indonesian Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the economy of the Riau Islands (Kepri) grew by 7.04 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, ranking it among the top five provinces nationally. BPS Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that Kepri’s economic performance exceeded the national average of 5.61 percent. The five provinces with the highest growth in the first quarter were North Maluku at 19.64 percent, West Nusa Tenggara at 13.64 percent, Central Sulawesi at 8.32 percent, Gorontalo at 7.68 percent, and the Riau Islands at 7.04 percent. Within Kepri, five of the seven regencies and cities recorded economic growth above the national average: Batam City grew by 5.78 percent, Karimun Regency by 6.14 percent, Bintan Regency by 6.34 percent, Natuna Regency by 15.37 percent, and Anambas Islands Regency by 18.80 percent.
