Jayapura (ANTARA) - Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti launched the 2026 Economic Census in Jayapura City, Papua, during an awards ceremony for high-achieving regional governments in the Papua region on Monday. “BPS has been tasked with conducting a complete data collection exercise, known as the 2026 Economic Census, which will run door-to-door from 15 June to 31 August 2026,” she said in Jayapura on Monday. Amalia noted that she appreciated Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian for signing a joint circular letter that has been distributed to all regional heads across Indonesia to support the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census. “The Home Affairs Minister also conveyed to all regional heads that the Economic Census is a good opportunity for them to obtain accurate data without having to use their regional budgets,” she said. She added that she also appreciated the joint commitment of all governors across Papua who have issued circulars for all Regional Apparatus Organisations and business actors to support the smooth implementation of the 2026 Economic Census in the region. She added that 5,355 census officers across Papua are ready to record the community’s economic activities. Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian stressed the importance of the Economic Census, stating that policymaking must be based on data. “Therefore, in this momentum, we ask all regional heads in Papua to support the 2026 Economic Census,” he said.
