BPS Chief Highlights Soaring Beef Prices, Some Regions Hit Rp200,000 per Kg
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has revealed that beef prices continue to show upward pressure as of early August 2026. The national average price has already exceeded the Sales Reference Price (HAP), reaching Rp143,737 per kilogram (kg).
BPS Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that monitoring up to the first week of August 2026 showed the national average price of beef had risen compared to the previous month. In her presentation, the average beef price in the first week of August 2026 reached Rp143,737 per kg, an increase of 0.54% compared to July 2026. This price has surpassed the consumer HAP of Rp140,000 per kg.
“Beef requires special attention, because nationally the average price of beef in the first week of August 2026 is already far above the HAP. In fact, in the first week of August, it touched Rp143,737 per kg,” Amalia said during the Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday (10/8/2026).
The price increase is not as widespread as that of broiler chicken. However, BPS recorded 56 districts/cities experiencing an increase in the Beef Consumer Price Index (IPH) up to the first week of August 2026, representing approximately 15.56% of monitored regions.
“Although only 56 districts/cities recorded an increase in the IPH, the national average requires attention because it is already above the HAP,” she added.
Extreme price pressures were observed in several areas. BPS noted the highest beef price reached Rp200,000 per kg in regions including Puncak Jaya Regency, Pegunungan Bintang Regency, and Nabire Regency.
Other areas also recorded significant prices above the HAP. Melawi Regency saw prices at Rp180,000 per kg, approximately 28.57% above the reference price, despite a recorded IPH increase. Kubu Raya Regency reported prices of Rp165,000 per kg, or 17.86% above the HAP, with an IPH increase of 7.51%. Kutai Kartanegara Regency recorded a price of Rp157,333 per kg, 12.38% above the HAP, while South Bengkulu Regency was at Rp150,000 per kg, 7.14% above the HAP.
BPS also noted several districts where prices remained below the HAP but experienced IPH increases, such as Central Lampung Regency at Rp140,000 per kg with a 9.60% IPH rise, Simalungun Regency at Rp128,000 per kg with a 3.62% IPH rise, and Nganjuk Regency at Rp131,667 per kg with a 3.51% IPH rise. This indicates that price pressures are not limited to regions already exceeding the reference price but are also emerging in areas beginning to record index increases.
