BPS Chief Guarantees Data Security for 2026 Economic Census

Head of the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti has urged the public not to worry about providing data to official officers for the 2026 Economic Census. Amalia stated that the BPS guarantees the confidentiality and security of citizens’ data.

‘I want to convey that the public need not worry that the confidentiality of the data we collect will be well maintained. We also maintain data security,’ Amalia said while attending the Joint Commitment Strengthening event for the Success of the 2026 Economic Census at the Bali Governor’s Office in Denpasar on Saturday (11/7/2026).

Amalia also asked census officers to be friendly, polite, and empathetic when approaching respondents. She stressed that the data collected during the census must be accurate. ‘My message to census officers is not to miss any data and the data collected must be accurate,’ she added.

During the event, Amalia also revealed the progress of the census in several regions. According to her, Papua Pegunungan is the province facing the most difficulty in reaching the targets of the 2026 Economic Census. ‘The Papua region, especially Papua Pegunungan, is the majority,’ Amalia said.

Amalia explained that the Economic Census programme aims to collect accurate data as a basis for formulating policies and development planning in the regions. She added that accurate data can also be utilised by investors to see the potential in an area. The 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) held by BPS runs from 1 May to the end of August 2026. In Bali alone, 3,774 officers have been deployed to collect data door-to-door.
