BPS: Bali, Banten, and DIY Recorded Highest Hotel Occupancy in July
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that the provinces of Bali, Banten, and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) experienced the highest room occupancy rates (TPK) for star-rated hotels during the period of July 2026.
Specifically, the occupancy rate for star hotels in Bali was recorded at 67.29 per cent, Banten at 58.89 per cent, and DIY at 58.51 per cent.
“The increase in occupancy was primarily driven by the rising mobility of domestic tourists and the demand for accommodation during the school holidays,” said Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Overall, the occupancy rate for star hotels in July 2026 reached 54.55 per cent, representing a monthly increase of 0.26 per cent (month-to-month/mtm) and a yearly increase of 1.75 per cent (year-on-year/yoy).
Other factors contributing to the star hotel occupancy rates in July 2026 included the hosting of various local and international events, particularly in North Sulawesi, West Java, Jakarta, Bali, and Central Java.
Meanwhile, the provinces experiencing the lowest star hotel occupancy in July 2026 included Highland Papua (18.33 per cent), Maluku (27.18 per cent), and Aceh (29.04 per cent).
In terms of monthly growth, star hotel occupancy in July 2026 rose by 0.26 per cent (mtm) compared to June 2026. The highest increases were recorded in West Nusa Tenggara (6.68 per cent), Papua (5.94 per cent), and East Nusa Tenggara (3.83 per cent).
Conversely, Gorontalo experienced the sharpest decline, falling by 5.82 per cent.
“There were 14 provinces that experienced an increase in star hotel occupancy in July 2026 compared to June 2026,” said Ateng.
For non-star hotels and other types of accommodation, the occupancy rate in July 2026 was recorded at 27.25 per cent.
Regions recording the highest occupancy in this category included Bali (42.53 per cent), Jakarta (42.21 per cent), and the Riau Islands (39.79 per cent). The lowest occupancy was experienced by Highland Papua at 7.78 per cent.
“Star hotel occupancy is generally higher compared to non-star hotel occupancy,” he added.
Compared to June 2026, the occupancy rate for non-star hotels and other accommodations in July 2026 decreased by 0.34 per cent (mtm).
The highest increases were recorded in West Nusa Tenggara (3.90 per cent), Bali (3.61 per cent), and the Riau Islands (1.84 per cent). In contrast, Gorontalo, Maluku, and Banten experienced the deepest declines, falling by 4.76 per cent, 3.34 per cent, and 2.81 per cent, respectively.
