BPS Assures Data Confidentiality for 2026 Economic Census
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has assured that the 2026 Economic Census guarantees the confidentiality of public data, as it is solely used for statistical purposes and presented in aggregate form, ensuring the identity of every respondent remains protected.
BPS Main Inspector Dadang Hardiwan stated in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, on Wednesday that the public need not worry about providing data to census officers, as BPS is committed to safeguarding all information collected during the 2026 Economic Census.
“Data collection will be conducted through several methods. Following the online self-enumeration phase in May-June 2026, BPS will proceed with direct door-to-door data collection from 15 June to 31 August 2026 to reach members of the public who have not yet submitted their data,” he said.
According to him, the enumeration targets not only business actors but also households, as various family-run enterprises exist within residential environments that form part of economic activity and need to be captured through the 2026 Economic Census.
“All officers are equipped with official assignment letters and wear 2026 Economic Census vests as identification when carrying out data collection,” he said.
He urged the public to verify that visiting officers are official BPS personnel before providing information. This identification serves as a marker for the public when receiving officer visits during the census period.
Dadang emphasised that the enumeration results will not display individual information, as BPS only presents the 2026 Economic Census results in aggregate statistical form, ensuring that information provided by the public remains protected in accordance with applicable regulations.
He invited the public to actively participate in making the 2026 Economic Census a success by welcoming official BPS officers and providing truthful data according to actual conditions, so that the quality of the resulting data becomes increasingly accurate.
“We hope the public remembers the ‘TIR’ message: Terima (Welcome) the Economic Census officer, Isi (Fill in) data truthfully, and Rahasia (Secrecy) of your data is maintained by BPS as a commitment to preserving public trust during the data collection process,” said Dadang Hardiwan.
