BPS Assures 2026 Economic Census Not for Tax Data Collection

The Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for Central Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands, I Ketut Martayasa, has asserted that the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census is not for tax collection purposes, but rather to map the social and economic conditions of the community in aggregate. The public is urged not to worry regarding their personal data.

“We want the community to understand that this activity is not intended to register taxpayers,” said Ketut in Koba, Central Bangting, Sunday (5/7/2026).

Ketut stated that census officers will be equipped with official identification when visiting residents’ homes to ensure the public understands the purpose and objective of the data collection.

The 2026 Economic Census, he noted, is part of BPS’s efforts to update validated economic data, as the socio-economic conditions of the community are dynamic and subject to change over time.

“The economic status of the community, whether capable or unable, can change alongside current economic situations, therefore data needs to be continuously updated,” he said.

According to him, the census results are public data presented in aggregate form. Meanwhile, individual data will remain confidential and will not be published.

“If there are intervention programmes from government agencies, the results will be handed directly to the relevant institutions,” he added.

He also introduced the ‘Desa Cinta Statistik’ (Desa Cantik) programme, which aims to increase statistical literacy at the village level while encouraging village governments to manage and utilise data optimally as a basis for development planning.

He expressed hope that the synergy between BPS and the Central Bangka Regency Government would strengthen in the implementation of statistics to support regional development that is more effective, transparent, and data-driven.
