BPS Assures 2026 Economic Census Has No Connection to Taxation
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has emphasised that the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census is not connected to taxation matters. This assurance was given so that the public need not worry about providing the information required during the data collection process.
Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, stated that data submitted by the public in the Economic Census will be kept confidential. She therefore urged members of the public who have not yet been enumerated to participate in the census.
“Do not worry, we will maintain the confidentiality of the data and we also guarantee that this has no connection to taxation,” Amalia said in Jakarta on Friday (28/8/2026).
She also encouraged the public to remind family members, relatives, neighbours and colleagues who have not yet taken part in the data collection to participate. According to her, public involvement is needed so that BPS can obtain more complete data on citizens’ economic activities.
BPS is providing an alternative for members of the public who wish to complete the data independently. Residents can use an online questionnaire provided by BPS without having to answer questions directly to enumerators.
“If you wish to complete it independently, we have also prepared an online questionnaire, and the link can be requested from the officers who visit,” Amalia said.
According to Amalia, this self-completion option makes it easier for members of the public who want to fill in the questionnaire themselves. Residents can still participate in the Economic Census by providing the required information through the online questionnaire.
On the same occasion, Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani received BPS officers who were conducting Economic Census data collection at his residence. Muzani answered a number of questions regarding the number of family members and business activities run by his family and its members.
Muzani expressed hope that the Economic Census would run smoothly and be followed by as many members of the public as possible. He assessed that the data obtained from the census is important for the state to understand the economic activities of the public, so that policies can be based on correct data and figures.
“I hope this activity can run smoothly and be followed by as many Indonesian citizens as possible,” said the Gerindra politician.
After the data collection process was completed, a sticker was placed on Muzani’s house as proof that the occupants of the house had participated in the Economic Census. BPS hopes that the public will not hesitate to participate so that the data collection can produce accurate economic data.
