BPS: Annual Inflation in April Reaches 2.42 Percent
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded annual (year-on-year) inflation for April 2026 at 2.42 percent, higher than the 1.95 percent in April 2025. Based on expenditure groups, annual inflation was mainly driven by the food, beverages, and tobacco group with a contribution of 0.90 percent and an inflation rate of 3.06 percent.
The personal care and other services group followed with a contribution of 0.77 percent and an inflation rate of 11.43 percent. “Inflation in this group was mainly driven by gold jewellery commodities,” said Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, at the BPS office in Jakarta on Monday, 4 May 2026.
Based on components, he said, all components experienced annual inflation. The highest inflation occurred in the volatile component, at 3.37 percent with an inflation contribution of 0.56 percent. Dominant commodities contributing to inflation included broiler chicken meat, rice, and broiler eggs.
The core component also experienced inflation of 2.44 percent with an inflation contribution of 1.56 percent, driven by rises in gold jewellery prices, cooking oil, rice with side dishes, and academy/university tuition fees.
Meanwhile, the administered component experienced lower inflation of 1.53 percent with an inflation contribution of 0.30 percent, mainly due to increases in air transport tariffs, machine-rolled clove cigarettes (SKM), and hand-rolled clove cigarettes (SKT).
Based on regions, all provinces in Indonesia experienced annual inflation. The highest inflation occurred in West Papua at 5.00 percent, while the lowest was in Lampung at 0.53 percent.
