BPS Analysis: Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026 Generates Rp 58.9 Billion Economic Impact

The Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026 not only recorded success in its organisation but also had a positive impact on the regional economy. According to an analysis by the Riau Provincial Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the running event, which was attended by 15,080 participants, is estimated to have generated Rp 58.9 billion for the province’s economy. This estimate stems from total participant spending of approximately Rp 42.5 billion, which was then analysed using the Input-Output (IO) Table approach to demonstrate the chain effect on various local economic sectors. The research was conducted to measure the direct economic impact of the Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026 on local economic activity. The study used a combined approach, surveying 130 respondents and integrating organiser data, then analysing it using the Riau Province Input-Output Table. Based on the survey results, total participant spending was estimated at around Rp 42.5 billion. Through simulation using the Input-Output Table, this spending activity generated a total economic effect of approximately Rp 58.9 billion on the Riau Province economy. This participant spending not only benefited the event organiser sector but also flowed into various business fields, such as transport, hotels, restaurants, trade, processing industries, and other services. The Chairman of the Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026 Committee, Karorena Polda Riau Kombes Daniel Widya Mucharam, stated that the analysis results prove that sport can provide benefits far beyond the competitive aspect. “Alhamdulillah, the entire series of Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026 ran safely, orderly, and smoothly. What is most gratifying is that this activity not only brought together thousands of runners from various regions in Indonesia and abroad but also provided a real economic impact for the community,” said Kombes Daniel on Wednesday (22/7/2026). According to Daniel, this shows that a sporting event can be a driver of economic activity while strengthening the image of Riau Province as a sport tourism destination. The presence of thousands of participants along with their families and companions opened up business opportunities in various sectors, ranging from hospitality, transport, and culinary to trade and MSMEs. He added that this success was the result of collaboration from all parties, including the Riau Regional Police and its ranks, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the Riau Provincial Government, district and city governments, sponsors, running communities, volunteers, health workers, mass media, MSMEs, cleaning staff, and all stakeholders involved from the planning stage to the execution of the event. “These analysis results motivate us that every activity organised must provide the widest possible benefits to the community. Not only successful as a sporting event, but also providing added value to the regional economy,” he said. Head of BPS Riau Province, Asep Riyadi, assessed that such activities have a positive contribution in driving local economic activity. According to Asep, organising sporting events can create a multiplier effect on regional economic activity. The structure of participant spending was dominated by purchases of sports equipment, transport, consumption, accommodation, and souvenirs. Meanwhile, participants from outside Pekanbaru City tended to have higher spending on transport, hotels, and food and beverages, thus providing a greater contribution to the local service and tourism sectors. In addition, the survey results also showed that 95.4 percent of respondents believed that the Riau Bhayangkara Run could boost the community’s economy, while 98 percent of participants stated they were willing to return for a similar event. “These findings indicate a high level of participant confidence in the economic benefits as well as the quality of the Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026’s organisation,” said Asep. Meanwhile, Event Director of Sumatera Satu Event Organizers, Rissandro Dian Pratama, said the economic impact generated by the Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026 was the result of event planning oriented towards participant experience. From the outset, the committee together with the Riau Regional Police designed the entire series of activities so that participants not only came to compete but also enjoyed various services and the potential that Riau Province has to offer. “We did not only focus on race day, but built an event ecosystem capable of moving community activity. Starting from race pack collection, MSME involvement, entertainment, to participant comfort while in Pekanbaru, everything was designed to provide the best experience,” he said. Rissandro believes that when participants arrive early, stay overnight, enjoy the cuisine, use local transport, and shop, the benefits will be felt by many sectors. “The BPS analysis showing an economic effect of up to Rp 58.9 billion is proof that professionally managed sporting events can provide broader benefits than just a running competition,” he concluded.
