BPS: Air Transport Passengers Decline in February 2026 Period
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded 4.08 million domestic air transport passengers in February 2026. This figure represents a 7.23% year-on-year decline compared to 4.40 million in February 2025. A decline was also observed in international air transport passengers. In February, international air transport passengers fell 4.71% year-on-year to 1.51 million. “Year-on-year, there was an increase in most transport modes except for international and domestic air transport, which experienced declines,” said Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, during a press conference on Wednesday, 1 April 2026. Domestic sea transport passengers rose 0.15% year-on-year to 2.03 million. Rail transport passengers increased 2.94% year-on-year to 43.27 million. Meanwhile, river, lake, and ferry (ASDP) passengers rose 1.49% year-on-year to 3.51 million. Ateng stated that on a monthly basis, passenger numbers across all transport modes declined. “This is mainly due to February being the low season. Second, public mobility has decreased, and February has fewer days compared to other months,” he said. The Central Statistics Agency recorded a 17.05% month-on-month decline in domestic air transport passengers in February 2026. International air transport passengers dropped 15.24%. Domestic sea transport passengers fell 9.86%. Rail transport passengers declined 10.05%. Meanwhile, ASDP passengers dropped 18.17%.
