Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that 91.11% of 379,592 elderly individuals in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) within income deciles 1 to 4 of the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN) are covered by government-provided health insurance.

BPS Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated in a Jakarta press release on Sunday that the basic right is provided through the National Health Insurance Premium Assistance (PBI JKN) scheme administered by BPJS Kesehatan.

“Of the 379,592 elderly in decile 1-4, 91.11% have health insurance via the PBI JKN scheme. Among 118,711 elderly living alone, 59.31% have received PBI,” Amalia said at the National Elderly Day (HLUN) 2026 event themed ‘Resilient Elderly, Growing Indonesia’ held in Kupang, NTT, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs.

This demographic profile of vulnerable groups in NTT is considered a crucial reference for updating the DTSEN.

She added that inclusive social protection interventions for NTT’s elderly are expected to reduce extreme poverty and increase life expectancy in eastern Indonesia.
