Indonesians enthusiastically purchased goods during Ramadan 2026 via online platforms, such as e-commerce sites. According to BPS data, 41% of Indonesians chose online platforms as their preferred shopping destination during Ramadan 2026. This figure is almost twice that of the second most popular option, local markets, at 23%. The remainder shopped via malls and physical stores at 13%, social media shops at 8%, large supermarkets at 7%, Ramadan bazaars at 5%, WhatsApp sales at 2%, and official brand websites at 1%. “Looking at the first quarter, online shopping turned out to be the primary choice during the Ramadan period,” said BPS Chief Amalia Adhininggar Widysanti at the Bappenas office on Thursday (7/5/2026). During Ramadan up to Eid al-Fitr (March 2026), BPS also recorded increased visits to four major e-commerce sites compared to the previous month. Visits to Shopee reached 191.4 million in March 2026, surging 37.6% from the previous month (month-to-month). Tokopedia recorded 64.3 million visits, up 31.8% month-to-month, Lazada had 32.5 million visits or an increase of 59.3% month-to-month, and Blibli had 20.9 million visits, surging 59.5% month-to-month. Meanwhile, QRIS transactions totalled 2.16 billion in March 2026, an increase of 20.3% from February 2026 transactions. Amalia also stated that quarterly e-commerce transaction growth was 6.2% based on data received from electronic trading participants. Furthermore, Bank Indonesia data shows that QRIS transactions, both trade transactions and payments via QRIS, increased by up to 111.94% year-on-year.
