BPS: 2026 Economic Census a Vital Instrument for Portraying the Real Economy
The economic census is an important instrument for understanding the real condition of the national and regional economy, akin to a medical check-up or medical record of the economy. Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that the 2026 Economic Census (SE) is a vital instrument for ascertaining the real condition of the national and regional economy. “The economic census is an important instrument for understanding the real condition of the national and regional economy. The economic census is like a medical check-up or medical record of the economy,” Amalia said during the Alert Roll Call and Strengthening of Joint Commitment for the 2026 Economic Census at the Korpri Field, Lampung Governor’s Office, Bandarlampung, on Saturday. According to her, accurate data from the census will serve as the basis for formulating development policies, developing investment, and empowering the business world. Therefore, she invited the entire community to actively participate by providing correct data. “Every piece of information gathered will become an important foundation in designing policies capable of improving public welfare,” she said. Amalia also appreciated the commitment of the Lampung Provincial Government, which provided full support for the implementation of SE 2026. She also motivated the 8,619 SE 2026 officers who will be on duty in 15 districts/cities across Lampung Province. She referred to the officers as ‘data warriors’ who hold an important role in determining the success of the census implementation. During the roll call, Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal emphasised that quality development must begin with the availability of valid data. For this reason, the Lampung Provincial Government is providing full support for the national agenda, which is held every ten years. “We all realise that quality and targeted development starts from accurate data. Without complete and correct data, it is difficult for us to make decisions or formulate targeted policies,” he said. The governor assessed that SE 2026 has an important role in comprehensively portraying the region’s economic condition. The resulting data will later serve as the basis for formulating more effective, inclusive, and sustainable economic development policies. He noted that Lampung Province has significant economic potential in various sectors, ranging from agriculture, plantations, and fisheries to industry, trade, tourism, and millions of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). “The success of development is not only measured by high economic growth, but also by the extent to which the community feels the benefits through job creation, increased income, and stronger people’s businesses,” he said. Mirza also expressed appreciation to all field officers who will be the frontline of the SE 2026 implementation. He advised the officers to carry out their duties professionally, with integrity, and to provide friendly and humane service to the community.
