Pangkalpinang (ANTARA) - The Badan Pengembangan dan Pembinaan Bahasa (BPPB) of the Republic of Indonesia is intensifying the National Literacy Movement in the Province of Kepulauan Bangka Belitung to improve the human resources of the local community.

“This movement is important to support the Asta Cita of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, in enhancing human resources,” said the Head of BPPB, Hafidz Muksin, while attending the inauguration of the Kantor Bahasa Babel building in Pangkalpinang on Monday.

He stated that the Kantor Bahasa Kepulauan Bangka Belitung serves as a place for compiling, developing, disseminating, and passing down literacy in the Indonesian language and local languages to literacy enthusiasts, literary figures, and the public.

“We appreciate the Governor of Kepulauan Babel, Hidayat Arsani, who has donated land for the construction of this Kantor Bahasa building, and alhamdulillah, the building construction has progressed well and been completed in just four months,” he said.

“Without the Indonesian language proclaimed in the Sumpah Pemuda in 1928, unity, oneness, and sovereignty might not have been achieved. With the Indonesian language and its oath to uphold the unity of the Indonesian language,” he said.

According to him, this is where the importance of the Indonesian language lies as the sovereignty of the nation to enhance the sovereignty and independence of this nation.

In addition, the goal of nation-building is to enlighten the life of the nation, and this is enshrined in the 1945 Constitution.

“The goal of this nation-building cannot be achieved if we do not master language, reading, and writing. Therefore, the role of the Badan Bahasa is very important in improving the language, reading, and writing abilities of the community,” he said.
