BPOM Supports GGL Restrictions Through Nutri Level
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – BPOM supports the control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) through restrictions on sugar, salt, and fat (GGL) consumption. This can be achieved with a new policy on the inclusion of Nutri Level, which is expected to increase awareness of healthy products.
This support comes after BPOM Head Taruna Ikrar recently signed the Draft Revision of BPOM Regulations on Nutritional Information Labelling for Processed Foods. The draft revision adds provisions regarding the inclusion of Nutri Level on the front-of-pack nutritional labelling.
“Nutri Level is a nutritional labelling system that will be implemented in Indonesia to help the public choose healthier food products,” said Taruna, quoted on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
Taruna explained that Nutri Level indicates the level of processed food based on GGL content. The inclusion of Nutri Level is marked with letters A to D, followed by colour indicators showing the GGL levels: A (dark green, meaning lower GGL content), B (light green, low GGL content), C (yellow, should be consumed wisely), and D (red, should be limited according to needs or health conditions).
“With Nutri Level labelling, it is hoped that public awareness in choosing healthier products can be increased,” Taruna stated.
