BPOM: PT Ferron Par's 150th Export Proves Indonesian Medicine Can Compete Globally
Cikarang, West Java — The Head of the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), Taruna Ikrar, has dispatched the 150th export container from PT Ferron Par Pharmaceuticals to Europe, serving as evidence that Indonesia’s pharmaceutical industry is capable of competing on a global scale.
“This is proof that Indonesia is not merely an importer; this nation is now capable of exporting not only to neighbouring countries but also penetrating the European market. This will impact our national economy in the form of foreign exchange reserves,” he stated during the shipment departure in Cikarang, West Java, on Thursday.
Taruna emphasised that the benefits of exporting medicines from Indonesia to Europe and other foreign nations manifest the increasing international public trust in Indonesian products. This achievement is inseparable from the role of BPOM, which has attained the WHO Listed Authority (WLA) status, the highest regulatory reputation in the world.
WLA is a recognition by the WHO of regulatory authorities that possess international-standard drug oversight systems. With this status, Indonesia is part of the global WLA network, which includes 4lar 41 regulatory authorities from 39 countries. This status strengthens the credibility of Indonesia’s regulatory system and serves as capital for the national pharmaceutical industry in the global market.
“How we increase competitiveness is, first and foremost, by enhancing reputation. Being certified by an international body with WLA means we are on par with the United States and Europe. The second strategy is that BPOM will provide various incentives, such as accelerating certification without compromising quality, as we already possess a highly qualified team of assessors,” said Taruna.
Data from the Indonesian Ministry of Industry notes that the export value of Indonesia’s pharmaceutical and natural medicine industry reached 639.42 million USD during the period of January to September 2024. BPOM’s WLA status further strengthens international market confidence in the national pharmaceutical industry.
PT Ferron Par Pharmaceuticals, a company part of the Dexa Group, serves as a concrete example of the Indonesian pharmaceutical industry’s ability to meet global market standards.

The 150th container, departing from Cikarang, carries Indonesian-produced diabetes medication destined for the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Poland. This journey reflects 18 years of consistency within the Indonesian pharmaceutical industry in meeting quality standards and global market regulatory compliance.
