BPOM Mobile Application Can Serve as a Channel to Report Suspected Counterfeit Cosmetics
Jakarta — The Jakarta Centre for Drug and Food Supervision (BBPOM) has reminded the public that the BPOM Mobile application can serve as a channel for citizens to report suspected violations related to cosmetic product counterfeiting.
“When you discover suspected violations, for example counterfeiting or lack of distribution permits, please report it,” said Evi Citraprianti, Head of the Information and Communication Substance Group Team at BBPOM Jakarta, during a podcast in Jakarta on Wednesday.
She stated that reporters must provide clear personal identification as a form of responsibility to confirm that the information provided is accurate, as well as product information, including the product name and purchase location.
“Personal data is secure. This is a form of responsibility. We will follow up on reported complaints. Please provide clear product identification, product name, where it was purchased, online media accounts with store links, and purchase invoices so we can conduct our investigation,” explained Evi.
In addition, she said, the BPOM Mobile application can also be used by the public to verify whether medications and food products are registered with the Food and Drug Authority.
“If upon inspection, the information displayed in the application differs from what will be checked, you can report it through the application, or through WhatsApp service at 0822-1126-7771,” said Evi.
During the monitoring period of April–June 2025, BPOM discovered 34 cosmetics containing harmful substances, such as mercury, retinoic acid, and hydroquinone, which can cause health problems including nerve damage, skin irritation, and cancer risk.
These harmful substances were found in several products, including body serums, face cleansers, night creams, and skin-brightening creams.
“Input from the public is important for our attention in verifying whether the report is accurate,” Evi concluded.
