Jakarta (ANTARA) — Indonesia’s Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) said that between 2024 and 2026 it had issued 144,863 marketing authorisation numbers for processed foods and introduced Nutri-Level nutrition labelling, as part of its support for food security through public protection.

BPOM head Taruna Ikrar said in Jakarta on Saturday that monitoring was an important part of supporting food security, improving public health and building trust in products circulating in Indonesia. The authorisations covered 105,354 domestic products and 39,509 imported products.

“BPOM has also issued BPOM Regulation No. 10 of 2026 on Nutrition Information on Processed Food Labels. The regulation governs the inclusion of nutrition information through the use of Nutri-Level, as one way of helping the public obtain information that is easier to understand when choosing food,” Taruna said.

Taruna explained that during the first two years of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice-President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s administration, BPOM had played a strategic role in ensuring that medicines and food on the market met requirements for safety, efficacy or benefit, and quality.

In the first half of 2026, BPOM inspected 198 Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) and provided guidance to 76 of them to support the adoption of good food-processing practices and food-safety systems.

“BPOM is committed to supporting the government’s priority programmes through risk-based monitoring of medicines and food, stronger cross-sector collaboration, and guidance for businesses and programme operators,” he said.

Under the Free Nutritious Meals programme, he said, nutritional provision must go hand in hand with food-safety guarantees. This would enable the government programme to be implemented effectively and deliver tangible benefits to the public.

In his address, President Prabowo Subianto praised the hard work and dedication of the Red and White Cabinet during the government’s first two years. He also highlighted Indonesia’s success in maintaining food availability amid global uncertainty.

“While the world is full of challenges, we can still be grateful that we are in a relatively good position. Our food supply is under control; among our most important achievements is that we have achieved food self-sufficiency,” President Prabowo said.

The President stressed that food self-sufficiency was strategically important to national resilience, particularly during crises that could disrupt supplies from other countries. “In a short time, ladies and gentlemen, food becomes decisive because food can now be used as a weapon,” he said.

The President also urged all government officials to continue working responsibly in the national interest and for public welfare. His remarks underscored the importance of coordination between ministries and agencies in ensuring government policies deliver tangible benefits to the public.
