BPOM: Industry-Regulator Synergy Boosts Indonesian Product Competitiveness
The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) has stated that synergy between regulators and industry is key to ensuring Indonesian products are competitive on the global stage, as it guarantees these products meet both national and international standards.
BPOM Chief Taruna Ikrar said in Jakarta on Friday that technological developments, digitalisation, changing consumer preferences, and increasing global market demands are challenges the food industry must face. Therefore, synergy between the two parties ensures Indonesian products not only meet national standards but are also able to compete in the international market.
“Product safety, quality, and innovation are the foundation for expanding the competitiveness of Indonesian food in the global market,” he said.
He encouraged PT Amerta Indah Otsuka (PT AIO) to continue strengthening product safety, quality, and innovation as the foundation for expanding the competitiveness of Indonesian food in the global market. The BPOM Chief invited PT AIO to continue developing export markets and maintain their sustainability. His agency will continue to assist the industry, not only as a regulator but also as a strategic partner through the implementation of science-based regulation, risk-based approaches, and digitalised supervision to create a conducive, transparent, and adaptive business climate.
During his visit, Taruna directly inspected the implementation of the food safety system and quality assurance at PT AIO’s production facilities. Taruna Ikrar was invited to visit the gallery and production facilities for several products. Based on monitoring results, the facility has demonstrated compliance with food safety, quality, and labelling provisions, as well as proper implementation of the Risk Management Programme.
The BPOM Chief stressed the importance of synergy to face the challenges of the food industry. This was conveyed in his directives, which were also delivered before PT Amerta Indah Otsuka President Director Makoto Ikemoto, Vice President Director Miftachul Djauhari, Director of Corporate Affairs Tri Junanto, President Commissioner Roy Sparringa, and the PT AIO management team.
Taruna Ikrar said the wider community needs to benefit from PT AIO. “We hope its Risk Management Programme runs well. Its product capacity and quality are maintained, so that the products are enjoyed and cherished by the public,” he said.
On this occasion, PT AIO President Director Makoto Ikemoto expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the BPOM leadership. “We always need support and collaboration from BPOM. Please continue to support us so that we can contribute to the health of the Indonesian people,” he said.
Similarly, President Commissioner Roy Sparringa appreciated BPOM for being increasingly open to collaborating with various stakeholders. “BPOM’s networking is expanding. BPOM opens its arms to meet and synergise with many parties. We are grateful for that,” he said.
