BPOM: Future Beauty Talk to Strengthen Innovation in Indonesia's Cosmetics Industry
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) states that Future Beauty Talk 2026 will serve as a space for cross-sector collaboration to discuss trends, technologies, and the direction of development in the beauty industry, which is expected to drive the strengthening of innovation and sustainability in the national cosmetics industry.
“The beauty industry is now evolving by integrating science, holistic health, and environmental responsibility,” said BPOM Head Taruna Ikrar in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Based on BPOM data, the national cosmetics industry has shown significant growth, with an increase of 64 per cent and growth in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in cosmetics of 49 per cent during the 2021–2025 period.
Taruna emphasised that this growth must be balanced with compliance to aspects of safety, efficacy, and quality to protect the public and maintain market trust.
In this regard, BPOM plays a role in ensuring strong supervision while supporting innovation through adaptive, collaborative, and risk-based regulations. This includes accelerating licensing services and guidance for business actors, particularly MSMEs.
Furthermore, Taruna stressed that Indonesia has great potential to become a global player in the beauty and wellness industry, supported by its rich biodiversity, traditional knowledge, and large domestic market.
“Indonesia has great potential as a global player in the world’s beauty and wellness industry,” he added.
Future Beauty Talk 2026 is expected to act as a catalyst in the development of local cosmetics based on Indonesian natural wisdom, from research to production, and to encourage sustainable collaboration to strengthen the national cosmetics industry that is safe, high-quality, and globally competitive.
In agreement, CEO of Martha Tilaar Group Kilala Tilaar also expressed hopes and encouragement for beauty industry players in Indonesia to continue innovating and adapting to changes.
“Going forward, this industry will not only talk about products, but also about science, sustainability, and how to understand consumer needs more holistically,” she said.
