BPOM Finds Local Coffee Linked to Kidney Failure, Advises Against Purchase
The Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) has announced that ‘Kopi Jantan +++’ contains dangerous medicinal chemical substances. The coffee is promoted as a product to enhance male stamina. These hazardous chemical contents have the potential to cause kidney damage and even heart failure in consumers.
“Products promoted as food, even those claiming to increase masculinity, were found to contain sildenafil citrate upon inspection,” stated the Head of BPOM, Taruna Ikrar.
Sildenafil citrate is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction, which requires a doctor’s prescription and must be taken under medical supervision. Consuming this substance in excessive amounts or without proper dosage can lead to severe bodily impacts, including kidney failure, heart failure, and even death. Because this illegal product lacks standardised dosing, consumers have no way to measure a safe limit for consumption.
“The effects can cause serious health disturbances, ranging from kidney failure and heart failure to death,” he added.
