Police catch con dealing drugs or Police catch con drug dealer Drug detectives confiscated 200 grams of marijuana and one gram of shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) at Tangerang penitentiary on Thursday evening.

Police also interrogated 11 prisoners who were allegedly involved in selling the drugs at the penitentiary.

Chief of Tangerang Police narcotics division Adj. Comr. Zaenuddin said that guards at the penitentiary had earlier received reports that an inmate, Irwan, had been dealing drugs in the prison.

At 3.30 p.m., an undercover police officer was smuggled into the prison, pretending to be a drug buyer. The officer "bought" a gram of shabu-shabu for Rp 550,000 (US$67) and after the transaction, police raided Irwan's cell and confiscated 200 grams of marijuana. Irwan confessed that he got the drugs from prisoner, Jufri Ibrahim. After Jufri's arrest the other convicts protested and caused the guards to set off the alarm. Police officers arrived at the scene to arrest the prisoners and take them to headquarters.

Acting warden Jejen Zainal HD said that poor control of visitors entering the prison had enabled them to smuggle drugs in.

"Our warders still check each visitor manually, without using any special devices. Perhaps unscrupulous warders also exist, but we don't know about them," he said.
