BPN Nias Employee Dies After Suspected Fall from 12th Floor of Medan Apartment
An employee of the National Land Agency (BPN) of Nias Regency, North Sumatra, surnamed Lase (27), was found dead after allegedly falling from the 12th floor of an apartment in the Setiabudi Road area of Medan City. The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Medan Sunggal Police, Iptu Herman Sentosa, stated that his office received information that the victim fell in the early hours of Friday (10/7). “The victim was an employee of the BPN of Nias Regency. He was found having fallen from the 12th floor of the Sky View Apartment. The incident is estimated to have occurred between 4.00 a.m. and 5.00 a.m.,” said Iptu Herman when contacted on Saturday (11/7). According to Iptu Herman, the police cannot yet conclude the suspected cause of the victim’s death. He said the police are still investigating the exact cause of death. “Whether he committed suicide or was murdered, that is still under our investigation. We cannot yet confirm the cause,” he stated. The victim was known to have been in Medan for only a few days on an official business trip. During his stay at the apartment, the victim is believed to have been living alone. “He had not been staying there long, as he was on a business trip to Medan. He had only arrived one or two days prior and was staying alone in the apartment,” explained Iptu Herman. Regarding the suspicion that the victim suffered abuse before being found dead, the police are also unable to provide certainty. “Regarding the allegation of abuse, we cannot yet confirm whether it occurred or not. Everything is still under investigation,” he said. The victim’s body was evacuated to the Bhayangkara Hospital in Medan for an autopsy. The results of the forensic examination will later serve as a basis for investigators to uncover the cause of the victim’s death. “Later, after this is revealed, we may provide another update. The body was taken to Bhayangkara Hospital for an autopsy,” he explained. Iptu Herman added that the handling of the case has now been transferred to the Medan Police Headquarters. Several witnesses have been questioned to assist the investigation process. “The case is being handled by the Medan Police Headquarters. The witnesses examined have been handed over to the Medan Police for follow-up,” said Herman.
