BPMA Optimises Arun Field to Boost Gas Sales
Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Aceh Oil and Gas Management Agency (BPMA) together with the regional-owned enterprise Pema Global Energi (PGE) is accelerating the completion of the Arun field optimisation project in North Aceh through the Aceh Production Operation - Optimization & Revamping Project (APO ORP) to increase gas sales. “This strategic project aims to boost gas and condensate sales and strengthen the reliability of production facilities in Working Area B,” said the Head of the Facility Maintenance and Project Control Division of BPMA, Helmi, in Banda Aceh on Tuesday. He explained that the project is part of efforts to rejuvenate facilities, where several old processing units that have operated beyond their lifespan will be replaced with new, more reliable and efficient facilities suited to current operating conditions. “Optimisation is carried out through the renewal of several main facilities, including gas compressors, gas processing facility (GPF), and power plant,” he said. Helmi stated that progress on the construction of the GPF with a capacity of 60 MMSCFD (million standard cubic feet per day) has reached 70 percent so far. It is targeted to be operational (on-stream) in August 2026. Meanwhile, he continued, construction activities are ongoing, with most major equipment having been fabricated and installed on site. The gas compressor facility is still in the fabrication stage and is scheduled to be delivered to the site in May 2026. Once operational, the GPF is expected to become the backbone of oil and gas production in Working Area B with higher reliability, effectiveness, and efficiency. “This facility is projected to increase gas sales by 12 MMSCFD from the existing condition, as well as add condensate production by around 300 BPD (from 1,000 BPD to 1,300 BPD),” Helmi emphasised. Meanwhile, BPMA Head Nasri appreciated the acceleration of this project as it can provide positive contributions to increasing oil and gas lifting in Aceh, while strengthening regional and national energy resilience. According to him, this project is an important milestone in maintaining operational sustainability, optimising production, and strengthening upstream oil and gas infrastructure resilience in Working Area B. “We hope this project can provide sustainable contributions to increasing state revenues from Aceh,” Nasri stated.
