BPKP Tasked by President to Oversee Implementation of 3 Million Homes Programme
The Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP) has received a mandate from President Prabowo Subianto, conveyed through Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, to assist and oversee the implementation of the 3 million homes programme to ensure it runs smoothly from start to finish. “As the government’s internal auditor, BPKP not only plays a supervisory role but also provides guidance so that the programme’s governance is implemented accountably, transparently, and in accordance with regulations,” said BPKP Head Muhammad Yusuf Ateh in an official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. He further explained that the assistance is intended to ensure all processes run smoothly, minimise the potential for irregularities, and maintain accountability at every stage of the programme’s implementation. BPKP’s primary concern is ensuring the programme is precisely targeted. He stressed that the benefits must be felt by the communities who are truly entitled to receive them, particularly Low-Income Communities (MBR) and the large number of informal workers, especially in the Cikarang and Bekasi areas of West Java. “As auditors, we have been tasked by the President, specifically the Minister of PKP, to assist and oversee this programme properly, so it can run smoothly, with good governance, no irregularities, and most importantly, so it is right on target, truly received by low-income communities, especially the informal workers who are certainly very numerous in the Cikarang and Bekasi areas,” Ateh said. To this end, BPKP is fully committed to the programme’s implementation through synergy with all stakeholders, including the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, the Ministry of Finance, Danantara, and the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN). BPKP hopes that through strong oversight and cross-ministerial and institutional coordination, the programme can be implemented effectively, possess good governance, be free from irregularities, and provide tangible benefits to communities in need. Additionally, the government has received a 30-hectare land grant located in the Meikarta area, Cikarang, Bekasi Regency. The land is planned for the construction of subsidised flats intended for low-income communities. The availability of this land grant is expected to accelerate the development of vertical housing areas in Jakarta’s buffer zone.
