BPKP Auditor: No Interference in Calculating State Losses in Chromebook Case
Auditor from the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), Dedy Nurmawan, has affirmed that there was no interference or directives from investigators during the calculation of state losses in the corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook laptops. Dedy stated that the BPKP’s calculation of state losses was carried out independently.
This was conveyed by Dedy Nurmawan when presented by the prosecutor as an expert witness in the trial of the alleged corruption case regarding the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM) at the Jakarta Corruption Court, on Monday (13/4/2026). The defendant is former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim.
Initially, the prosecutor asked whether there was any interference or directives from investigators in the process of calculating the state’s financial losses in this case. It should be noted that Dedy is the head of the team tasked with calculating the state losses in this matter.
“We ask you to explain in this honourable court whether you, as the auditor requested to calculate the state’s financial losses in this case along with your colleagues, have worked independently, without any involvement, pressure, or directives from any party, including the Attorney General’s Office investigators, in determining the methods, research objects, or audit conclusions?” the prosecutor asked.
“How can it be ensured that the BPKP audit’s conclusions are purely from the professional opinions of the auditors and not ordered by other parties, including directives from investigators?” the prosecutor added.
Dedy then provided an explanation. Dedy assured that there was no interference or directives from investigators in the process of calculating state losses in this case.
“I assure you there were no directives from investigators or such interferences,” Dedy replied.
Dedy stated that his team worked professionally, producing accountable calculation conclusions. He mentioned that the discussions conducted during the calculation process were also carried out transparently.
“So we worked purely professionally based on the procedures and methods that we established and which can be accounted for. To maintain that, we were always transparent; discussions were always open, never closed,” Dedy said.
Dedy added that every calculation process was also reported to the BPKP leadership. He stated that his team worked in compliance with the applicable code of ethics.
“And of course, everything was with the knowledge of the leadership, everything was reported. That is our effort to maintain independence, including upholding the code of ethics; my team and I always ensured that nothing undesirable happened,” Dedy said.
In this case, Nadiem is charged with corruption related to the procurement of Chromebook laptops during his tenure as Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The project is said to have caused state losses of Rp 2.1 trillion.
Nadiem has filed a preliminary objection. The judge rejected the objection and requested that the trial proceed to the proof stage.
