BPKH Says Initial Hajj Registration Deposit Should Rise to IDR 35 Million

The Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) has stated that the initial deposit for hajj registration should ideally be raised to IDR 35 million from the current IDR 25 million to enhance the value of benefits generated from the funds in the future. “In our Strategic Plan (Renstra), the initial deposit should increase to IDR 35 million,” said Head of the Executing Agency Fadlul Imansyah in Bandung on Friday, 12 June 2026. Fadlul explained that the scenario for the deposit increase was supposed to have begun in 2024 and proceed gradually until 2026 to deliver an optimal impact on hajj fund management. He noted that a larger initial deposit would expand the pool of managed funds, thereby increasing the nominal value of benefits produced. Conversely, if the policy is not implemented, the nominal rupiah value of the benefits may not be as optimal as expected. From an investment perspective, Fadlul said rising yields in the financial market present an opportunity for BPKH to achieve better returns, especially through Sovereign Sharia Securities (SBSN). He noted that a decline in SBSN prices, which causes yields to rise, actually creates a buying opportunity for BPKH to secure instruments with higher returns. “If there is a price decline in SBSN, we will actually support it and seek that opportunity. In doing so, we also help the government ensure that the yields on sharia securities do not become too high,” he said. Regarding the potential increase in the initial deposit to IDR 35 million, Fadlul stressed that the policy does not necessarily need to be stipulated in a revision of the Hajj Financial Management Law. He said the determination of the deposit amount is the result of an agreement between the government and Commission VIII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI). “This increase does not have to be enshrined in the law; it is a matter of agreement, and the one who will set it is the ministry handling hajj affairs, not BPKH,” Fadlul said.
