The Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) has confirmed that all Indonesian pilgrims’ funds are managed safely, transparently, and in accordance with Sharia principles, strongly refuting claims that the system resembles fraudulent investment schemes or Ponzi structures.

BPKH board member Acep Riana Jayaprawira explained that the agency’s system does not involve ‘robbing Peter to pay Paul’, clarifying that pilgrims’ deposits are professionally managed and never used to send other pilgrims. ‘BPKH never uses one pilgrim’s money to send another. The funds used for departure are from the pilgrim’s own contributions,’ he stated during a BPKH Connect event in Semarang on Wednesday (20/5).

He added that Ponzi schemes typically use new participants’ funds to cover obligations for earlier ones, citing issues with problematic Umrah travel agencies. However, BPKH’s management follows cautious, accountable practices under oversight from relevant institutions to ensure safety and optimal benefits for pilgrims. Through BPKH Connect forums, the agency continues to enhance public literacy on Hajj fund management to prevent misinformation.

‘Public trust is an amanah that must be safeguarded. Therefore, BPKH is committed to maintaining transparency and integrity in all Hajj fund management,’ Acep concluded.
