BPKH affirms commitment to support law enforcement in hajj quota corruption case

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) Fadlul Imansyah has affirmed his institution’s commitment to supporting law enforcement, particularly regarding the alleged corruption case in the management of additional hajj quotas for 2023-2024.

“BPKH fully supports the law enforcement process and will continue to be cooperative with law enforcement officials,” Fadlul Imansyah said at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday.

In the continuation of the trial concerning alleged corruption in the management of additional hajj quotas for 2023-2024, with the defendant being former special staff member of former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, Ishfah Abidal Azis alias Gus Alex, the Public Prosecutor examined three witnesses.

The three witnesses examined were Head of BPKH Fadlul Imansyah, BPKH Deputy of Finance Irwanto, and M Lutfi Makki, who previously served as Technical Hajj Staff Assistant 2 at the Hajj Affairs Office of the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah for the 2021-2024 period.

Fadlul Imansyah, together with BPKH Deputy of Finance Irwanto, appeared in response to the summons from law enforcement officials to provide testimony as witnesses in the handling of the alleged corruption case related to hajj quotas.

Fadlul assured that BPKH is ready to be cooperative by providing data, documents, and all necessary information in accordance with its authority and the provisions of laws and regulations.

“We are here to fulfil the summons as witnesses and to provide testimony in accordance with the facts we know,” he said.

Fadlul emphasised that BPKH respects all stages of the ongoing legal process and fully entrusts the handling of the case to the authorised law enforcement officials.

Meanwhile, BPKH Deputy of Finance Irwanto stated that his testimony was given as part of support for the examination process and efforts to uncover the case objectively based on facts and evidence.

BPKH affirmed that the management of hajj funds is a mandate that must be carried out by upholding the principles of transparency, accountability, prudence, professionalism, and good governance.

“We understand that the trust of pilgrims is an enormous mandate. Therefore, BPKH is committed to continuing to maintain integrity and ensuring that all duties and functions are carried out accountably,” he said.

BPKH assured that it will continue to support the law enforcement process without reducing the implementation of its institutional duties and functions.

In line with this, BPKH is committed to strengthening internal supervision and control to ensure that hajj fund management is carried out safely, transparently, professionally, and accountably.
