PKB wants Sahid investigated

BOGOR: Chairman of the Bogor chapter of the Nation Awakening Party (PKB) Idris Sartono urged Bogor City Council to question the newly elected deputy mayor, Sahid, who allegedly used a fake diploma in the election.

PKB is the seventh party to have demanded a special plenary meeting to resolve the issue.

Sahid was elected deputy to Diani Budiarto in the election on Jan. 14.

Last week, non-governmental organization the Society Against Narcotics and Brawls (Gepenta) reported Sahid to the police over his allegedly fake high school diploma, submitting a letter from the Jakarta education agency, which stated it did not issue a high school diploma in 1997 for the incumbent Council chairman.

Gepenta coordinator for Bogor Rocky F. Subun said that the Ministry of Home Affairs wanted resolution of the case dealt with by the West Java provincial administration.

"The office of regional autonomy at the home ministry said the police and the provincial administration should handle this allegation of fraud committed by Sahid," he said after a meeting with ministry official Sudarsono on Saturday. --Antara
