BPK Supports BULOG in Achieving Food Security Through Strengthened Self-Sufficiency
BPK leadership member Slamet Edy Purnomo, together with Perum BULOG CEO Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, conducted a review of the harvest in Karawang Regency, West Java. The visit also assessed the readiness of BULOG’s infrastructure. This visit represents BPK’s support for the government’s programme to achieve sustainable food self-sufficiency, backed by transparent, accountable, and public-oriented governance. The activities commenced with a joint harvest with farmers in Mekarjaya Village, Karawang Regency, one of the national rice production centres. During the occasion, Slamet Edy Purnomo and Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani engaged in direct dialogue with the Karawang Regional Leadership Coordination Forum and farmers to observe the progress of national rice production and the implementation of domestic grain and rice absorption carried out by BULOG. Slamet Edy Purnomo expressed his appreciation for BULOG’s achievements, noting its success in fulfilling its strategic role in strengthening national food security. According to him, BULOG’s success in increasing the absorption of farmers’ grain and rice serves as a key indicator of the government programme’s success in maintaining food availability while improving farmer welfare. ‘BPK fully supports the various government programmes implemented by BULOG to realise sustainable food self-sufficiency. In addition to the excellent procurement achievements, we also see a strong commitment to building accountable, transparent, and responsible governance. This serves as an important foundation so that the national food programme can run effectively and provide optimal benefits for farmers and the public,’ said Slamet Edy Purnomo in his statement on Thursday. He added that BPK will continue to carry out its oversight and audit functions constructively to ensure state financial management in the food sector adheres to the principles of good governance and supports the success of national strategic programmes. Meanwhile, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani stated that the support and oversight from BPK are an important part of strengthening public trust in national food management. ‘BULOG remains committed to carrying out the government’s assignments by prioritising the principles of good, accountable, and professional governance. We believe that sustainable food self-sufficiency can only be achieved through collaboration among all stakeholders and transparent and responsible management,’ said Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani. After the harvest, the delegation continued its visit to the Purwasari II BULOG Warehouse to inspect the storage system and management of the Government Rice Reserve (CBP). The BPK leadership member observed first-hand the readiness of BULOG’s warehousing facilities and infrastructure in maintaining the quality, quantity, and security of national food stocks. The visit then proceeded to BULOG’s Rice Milling Centre. On that occasion, the delegation reviewed the process of milling grain into rice, the application of quality standards, and the use of technology that supports operational efficiency and strengthens the national food supply chain. Through this visit, BPK and BULOG emphasised the importance of synergy between state institutions in supporting the realisation of sustainable national food self-sufficiency. Besides ensuring food availability for the public, strengthening accountable governance is also a crucial factor in maintaining public trust and guaranteeing the long-term sustainability of the national food programme.
