Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) has strengthened cooperation to promote accountability and sustainable development by attending the 5th BRICS Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) Leaders’ Summit 2026. The summit adopted the Bengaluru Declaration, representing a shared commitment among SAIs to enhance accountability within urban mobility systems through integrated, citizen-centric, and technology-based auditing approaches, while also agreeing upon the BRICS SAIs Work Plan for 2027-2028.

In a statement in Jakarta on Monday, the Chairperson of the BPK, Isma Yatun, emphasised the vital role of SAIs in auditing sustainable transport. This is seen as a necessary response to the challenges of urbanisation and climate change, aiming to foster global resilience in alignment with the 2026 BRICS SAIs theme, “Ease of Living with the Focus on Urban Mobility.”

“Indonesia has undertaken various efforts to realise sustainable transport, including the integration of mass transit, integrated spatial planning, and the development of a battery-based electric vehicle ecosystem,” she stated. Furthermore, the BPK plays a role in ensuring accountability for public investments in the transport sector through the execution of performance audits.

The BPK also presented its experience in auditing sustainable urban transport, highlighting government effectiveness in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the efficiency of transport systems. Additionally, the Chairperson of the BPK held bilateral meetings with several partner SAIs, specifically the SAIs of China and Russia. These discussions aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and bolster global SAI support in preparation for the BPK’s Chairmanship of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) for 2028-2031 and the BPK’s membership in the United Nations Board of Auditors (UN BoA) for 2026-2032.

“The BPK’s participation in this BRICS SAIs Summit is part of our efforts to strengthen our institutional role at the international level and to encourage collaboration among SAIs to enhance accountability and transparency in the management of state finances,” said Isma Yatun.
