BPK still auditing State Secretariat

JAKARTA: Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) head Anwar Nasution said here on Friday the BPK was continuing discussions with the State Secretariat as part of its audit of the latter.

The audit -- the results of which should have been announced in September -- will be completed before Nov. 3, he said.

"This is the procedure -- we have to discuss it with the institution that we audit," he said after attending a ceremony at the State Palace.

The interdepartmental anticorruption team has found indications of widespread corruption at the State Secretariat, a crime that may affect some powerful and influential people.

The team has asked the BPK to audit the State Secretariat, which plays a role in managing the daily office affairs of the President, and determining the date for a bill, proposed by the government, to be submitted to the House of Representatives for deliberation. --JP
